Hi.

Welcome to our blog where we equip women with tools to help them in their Christian walk and share what God lays on our hearts!

Thriving vs Surviving

As I was preparing to share my heart with you today, I was reminded of a recent that I spent at home. I had gone to run some errands and popped in our local florist as I was headed back. She just so happened to have some of my favorite flowers…hydrangeas. Don’t you love hydrangeas? Before I picked up the pretty package she had tied with a ribbon, I saw the perfect vase they could go in. It was kind of like a fish bowl, perfectly circular and not too big.

She let me have it for $5! Then I couldn’t wait to get home and arrange them in the vase. After I returned home, got the flowers positioned in the vase, I went about my day, seeing them every now and then.

The next day, I came upstairs to one of the big full blooms wilting and shriveling up. Perplexed, I inspected it, “what was wrong with it?” Why was this fresh flower not looking so fresh anymore? It looked tired, like it was melting alongside the other blooms that seemed to be fine. I picked up the fish bowl vase and realized then what the problem was.

The stem was no longer immersed in the water. It was disconnected from the “life” the fresh water gave it. Poor little stem, unable to reach the water. I quickly re-arranged the stems so they all could “have a drink”. Before long, that shriveled up hydrangea bloom was back to normal and beautiful again.

Anyone know where I’m going with this story? :) That water is the source from which the flower was given life. It cannot survive without the water. This convicts my soul to it’s core! How often do I try to survive without staying connected to the source? We cannot survive this sin stricken world without Jesus.

He is what we need…He is ALL we need!

We go from surviving to thriving when we choose to stay connected to the source from which we are given life and life ETERNAL!

Staying connected to the “Water of Life” not only sustains us but it makes us even more beautiful than we were before. I couldn’t believe how that bloom came back to life after just a few hours of refreshment!

Jesus Christ is the Living Water we must drink from. By dwelling with Him we are sustained & satisfied, He then can come into our hearts and restore us, making us more beautiful in Him.

John 4:14 states, “but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Giver of life,

Thank you for sustaining us and satisfying us in your truth and in who You are! Remind us daily to stay connected to you and continually abide among you. You are so faithful to restore our tired souls when we come to you! We are grateful - Amen
